Pakeneva horisontti / The Fleeting Horizon

The experimental short film The Fleeting Horizon explores the human affected changes in nature through the human perception and experience. The meditative essay film studies the relationship between commercial forest industry and fossil capitalism. With no human in the picture, the short film combines images from an old decommissioned oil tank located on the Vasikkasaari island on the coast of Helsinki, Finland, with images from an old growth spruce forest and a cut down old growth spruce forest in Paljakka, Kainuu, Finland. The film is shot with a wide format Bolex UltraPan8 camera and developed by hand. The films shot at the old oil tank are developed with a developer made out of spruce needles. The films shot at the old spruce forest and the cut down old growth spruce forest are developed with a chemical developer.
